A memoir is the keepsake.
Getting to know them is the gift.

A plan built around their life
Start wide.
Then follow their story.
Your first conversation explores the people, places, and turning points in their life.
From there, Retold’s AI uses what they’ve shared to choose where to go deeper next. Each session comes with a topic and three questions to get you started.
You can always follow a different thread. The plan adapts to your conversations.

The right follow-up, at the right moment
Go beyond
“And then what?”
As you record, Retold’s AI follows the conversation and suggests questions on your screen. The song playing. The first words. The little detail that brings it all back.
See a question you like? Ask it aloud, in your own words. There’s nothing to tap. If the conversation is flowing, keep going — there’s no script to stick to and no AI voice interrupting.
Follow-up suggestions are included. Use them whenever you want a little inspiration.

A few things you might be wondering
Good questions.
Honest answers.
Does my parent need to use an app?
No. You open Retold in a browser on your phone or laptop. Your parent simply talks with you. There’s nothing for them to install, learn, or write. Agree to recording together before starting, then allow your browser to use your microphone.
What if I don’t know what to ask?
Each session starts with a topic and three questions. As you record, Retold analyzes the conversation and suggests follow-ups based on what your parent has just said. These suggestions are included in your plan, with no extra charge. Ask one aloud when you need inspiration, or ignore the screen when you’re having a good conversation.
Are they talking to me, or to AI?
To you. AI helps prepare questions, suggest follow-ups on your screen, and turn conversations into written stories. It doesn’t speak for you or for your parent. The recordings keep your actual conversation, with both your real voices.
We live far apart. Can we still do this?
Yes. Put your call on speakerphone, then open Retold on a second phone or laptop nearby. Its browser microphone records both voices from the room. Retold doesn’t join the call or connect directly to your calling app. Keep the room quiet and both voices audible, and make sure your parent knows you’re recording.
How much time does this actually take?
There are 6 conversations, designed for around 20 minutes each. You can keep talking if a story needs more time. Weekly conversations take roughly six weeks; every other week takes about three months. Afterward, set aside time to review the chapters and choose your photos. Printing follows your final approval; those examples describe the conversation schedule, not a delivery deadline.
Are the six topics the same for everyone?
No. The first conversation explores their life. Retold uses what you discover to suggest the topics and priorities for later sessions, then adapts again as you go. If a story about a first job leads to an unexpected adventure, there’s room to follow it. Your dashboard shows what you’ve completed and what’s coming next.
Will six conversations really be enough?
The aim is a meaningful, readable memoir, with the key milestones and vivid details — not an account of every year. A first exploration helps identify what matters; focused sessions and follow-ups help bring those stories to life. You review the chapter draft before it becomes a book, and all the original conversations remain saved.
What do we need to do before it’s printed?
After your sixth conversation, Retold proposes written chapters. Review the text, then upload the family photographs you’d like beside each chapter. Check the words and pictures together and give your approval before the book goes to print. You don’t have to write the memoir yourself.
Who can see our family’s stories?
Your recordings, stories, and photos are private to your account. You can share the finished book with your family. Before recording, make sure everyone agrees. You can delete an unsubmitted memoir from your dashboard.
Who can I make a memoir with?
A parent, grandparent, partner, or anyone whose life you’d love to understand better. Retold is designed around a person and their stories, wherever your family’s story begins.
How do I get started?
Create your own account, tell us who the gift is for, and pay securely with Stripe. You’ll manage the conversations from your account; your parent or grandparent doesn’t need a login. Open the first topic, ask a question, and press record. Retold suggests follow-up questions while you talk and saves the conversation for your memoir.
